Ships put into commercial use for the first time in the world

August 17, 1807 - For the first time in the world, steamships were put into commercial use as ferries in New York City, USA.

John Stephenson of the United States built the world's earliest ship with a propeller in 1804. Because the speed of the steam engine driving the propeller was too low, he thought that the propeller was better.

In 1807, he built the ship Phoenix with paddles. The Phoenix encountered a storm on its trial voyage from New York along the coast to Philadelphia. The "Claremont" ship arrived in Philadelphia safely after 13 days of sailing. This was the first time a ship in the world has sailed at sea.

Comment: Maritime transportation is the leader of the transportation industry, and ships are its main means of transportation. It is unimaginable what the transportation industry would be like without ships

Key words: August 17, 1807, steamship, world, first time
