On June 6, 1918, the first stock exchange in China opened
107 years ago today, on June 6, 1918 (April 28, 1918 in the lunar calendar), the Beijing Stock Exchange opened. Built in 1918, the old Beijing Stock Exchange is a bright two-story building. On June 6, 1918, the Beijing Stock Exchange opened. It was the first stock exchange founded by China itself. As early as 1892, Westerners established the Shanghai Stock Office, and in 1906, they established the Shanghai Public Industry Office to engage in securities and goods trading. But that's just an exchange run by foreigners. In the late years of Guangxu, Liang Qichao initiated the organization of joint-stock companies with the nature of an exchange, but was not approved. Later, Yuan Zizhuang and others once again advocated the establishment of a stock exchange. In 1916, in order to raise funds for the revolution, Sun Yat-sen joined forces with Yu Qiaqing and others to petition the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce to open an exchange in Shanghai. However, the Beijing government refused to approve it on the pretext that securities and articles could not be traded at the same time. After many efforts, the Beijing government finally agreed to the Chinese people to set up their own stock exchanges. The Beijing Stock Exchange was founded by Liang Shiyi, the former head of the transportation department, with a capital of 100,000 yuan. It mainly deals in bonds and stocks, as well as foreign currency business. Two years later, exchanges in Shanghai and other places were established one after another. This dilapidated exchange has been divided into several independent residential areas.
