52 years ago today, September 11, 1973 (August 15, 1973 in the lunar calendar), Chilean President Salvador Allende Gossens was killed. Right-wingers attacked the official residence of Chilean President Allende Salvador Allende Gossens, former Chilean president. Born in Santiago in 1908. Graduated from the University of Chile. Received his doctorate in medicine in Italy in 1932. In 1933, he participated in the founding of the Socialist Party and served as general secretary and chairman. He has served as a member of the House of Representatives, Senator, Vice President of the Senate, and Speaker of the Senate. From 1939 to 1942, he served as Minister of Health in the People's Front government. He has also served as Chairman of the Chilean Doctors Association, Chairman of the Pan American Federation of Doctors, and Honorary Chairman of the Chile-Chinese Cultural Association. He participated in the presidential election three times from 1952 to 1964. In 1970, the People's United Front, which was composed of the Socialist Party, the Radical Party, the Communist Party, and the Social Democratic Party, finally won the general election and became president. During his administration, he implemented state-owned copper mines, confiscated manors, and carried out land reform; fought against imperialism and colonialism externally; and safeguarded national sovereignty and national independence. He was killed on September 11, 1973 while fighting a coup. He was reburied in September 1990.
