On this day, 58 years ago, September 2, 1967 (July 28, 1967, the "Beast of Buchenwald" hanged himself in prison. On September 2, 1967, Ils-Koch, known as the "Beast of Buchenwald," strangled herself with a sheet in her cell in Germany. She was sentenced to life in prison for brutal crimes committed in the Buchenwald death camp. At the time, she was the wife of Karl-Koch, the camp commander. She was censored by the United States, West Germany and her former Nazi accomplices. In 1943, Hitler's SS officers thought she was particularly vicious. She starved, beaten and murdered hundreds of concentration camp prisoners, and made lampshades out of the victims 'human skins.
