On this day, 69 years ago, on June 1, 1956 (April 23, 1956, the Faculty of China Academy of Sciences was established. On June 1, 1956, the inaugural meeting of the China Academy of Sciences was held in Beijing. The meeting announced the establishment of the China Academy of Sciences. Four departments: the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, the Department of Biology and Geosciences, the Department of Technical Sciences, and the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences. Guo Moruo, President of China Academy of Sciences, delivered a work report, which summarized the work of the Academy of Sciences over the past five years and proposed future tasks and measures to improve work for the Academy of Sciences and its faculty. Premier Zhou Enlai of the State Council, Vice Premier Chen Yi, and Director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee Lu Dingyi attended the meeting to give important instructions. On behalf of the State Council, Zhou Enlai announced the list of 233 members of the four faculties of China Academy of Sciences approved by the 10th meeting of the State Council. Each faculty elected a faculty standing committee. Each faculty also made work reports at the meeting. The conference adopted the "General Resolution of the Founding Conference of the Faculty of China Academy of Sciences." The establishment of the Faculty of China Academy of Sciences marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of my country's scientific undertakings.
