103 years ago today, on July 2, 1922 (May 8, 1922, the Northern Expedition Army returned to attack Chen Jiongming, the naval commander suddenly defected. Chen Ce led his fleet away from Huangpu. On July 2, 1922, the Northern Expedition Army returned to Guangdong to attack Chen Jiongming. Since Chen Jiongming launched an armed coup on June 16, there has been outrage in the country. Sun Yat-sen exercised his presidential powers as usual on the Yongfeng ship, and secretly ordered all the Northern Expedition troops to return to Guangdong to quell the chaos. Sun Yat-sen summoned the captains of the Navy to explain their reasons for sticking to Huangpu, and the captains expressed their obedience. On the same day, the Northern Expedition Army returned to Guangdong. A three-way army composed of Xu Chongzhi, Li Fulin, Zhu Peide, and Huang Dawei attacked Chen Jiongming and prepared to attack Shaoguan. From July 3 to 5, Navy Commander Wen Shude twice led the captains and entourage of the four ships Haiqi, Haichen, Zhaohe, and Feiying to the Yongfeng ship in an attempt to expel Sun Yat-sen and force him to leave the fleet. The struggle between the two naval factions began to intensify. When Wen boarded the Yongfeng Ship for the second time, Chen Ce led each captain and officers to support Sun Yat-sen on both sides of Sun Yat-sen. Chen Ce guarded Sun Yat-sen to strengthen Sun Yat-sen's prestige. When Wen threatened that he was "determined to be neutral and had prepared a ceremony to bid farewell to Mr. Sun Yat-sen," the atmosphere suddenly became tense. Chen Ce held the handle of his revolver and wanted to pull out Wen Shude to signal for Sun Yat-sen to stop him. With the support of naval officers led by Chen Ce, Sun Yat-sen denounced Wen Shude for his cowardly betrayal. Wen Shude had to retreat angrily and never come back. On July 8, Wen Shude was bribed by Chen Jiongming with a huge sum of 200,000 yuan to openly betray Sun Yat-sen and lead the three major ships Haiqi, Haichen, and Zhaohe to surrender to the enemy. On July 9, Sun Xiangfu, commander of the Marine Corps stationed in Changzhou, defected with Wen and landed in the face of the enemy. As a result, the Changzhou Battery fell. The navy lost its land barrier and had no danger to defend itself. In order to get rid of the passive assault situation, Chen Ce led nine ships, including Baobi, Guangyu, Guangzhen, Guanggeng, Guangheng, Yongfeng, Chuyu, Yuzhang, and Wufeng, to suppress the land artillery attack with firepower and left Huangpu together and anchored in the newly built river to cover the retreat of the land troops supporting the grandchildren.
