On August 19, 1979, Cambodia condemned Pol Pot for the massacre
Forty-six years ago today, on August 19, 1979 (June 27, 1979), Cambodia condemned Pol Pot for the massacre. The remains of Pol Pot's massacre are at the Zorn Aye massacre graveyard in Cambodia, where hundreds of skulls gruesome dot the landscape, reminiscent of Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge rule and its atrocities. Millions of Cambodians died from Pol Pot's reign in 1975 until the day he was finally expelled in January 1979. The graveyard is one of the many traces of genocide left by one of the most barbaric rulers of this century. Today, the Cambodian government sentenced Pol Pot and his accomplice Lensari to death for the terror they were responsible for. Despite reports that Pol Pot is hiding in the jungles of Thailand, two fanatical leaders are nowhere to be found. Despite the current war in Cambodia, most people agree that the perpetrators of the massacre will never be allowed to regain power. As one Cambodian youth put it, "Pol Pot cannot be brought back." The contempt for this leader is so deep that an annual "Hate Pol Pot Day" is now being planned.
