Fifty-seven years ago today, on July 15th, 1968 (June 20th, 1968 in the lunar calendar), film artist Cai Chusheng died. Cai Chusheng Cai Chusheng was born in Shanghai on January 12, 1906. A native of Chaoyang, Guangdong. In 1929, he joined the Star Film Company, studied under Zheng Zhengqiu, and assisted in the production of films such as Peach Blossom Lake and Red Tears. In 1931, he joined Lianhua Film Company as a director, shooting films such as Going to the National Disaster and Spring in the South. Morning in the City, directed in 1933, is one of the representative films of the left-wing film movement. In 1934, Fishing Light Song, which was directed, won the honorary award of Moscow International Film Festival. After filming "New Woman" and "Lost Lamb" one after another. In 1936, he participated in the organization of Shanghai Film Salvation Association. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he went to Hong Kong and directed films reflecting the anti-Japanese war, such as Blood Splashing Baoshan City, Guerrilla March and A Thousand Miles Ahead. In 1946, Lianhua Film Art Society was organized in Shanghai, and later merged into Kunlun Film Company. The following year, he co-directed the film "A River of Spring Water Flows East" with Zheng Junli. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as deputy director of the Film Bureau of the Ministry of Culture, chairman of China Film Association, chairman of China Film Association and vice chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Persecuted to death on July 15, 1968.
