Eighty-four years ago today, on August 7, 1941 (June 15, 1941), the Indian poet Tagore passed away. Tagore was born on May 7, 1861, in a landowner's family in Calcutta, Bengal Province. He loved literature and art from an early age. Thanks to his hard work throughout his life, he achieved success in all fields of literature and art. Tagore was first and foremost a poet, and his poetry was famous. He wrote more than 50 collections of poems, and his free-spirited emotions and original rhymes were combined to open up a new world for the creation of new Indian poetry at that time. Tagore was also diligent and productive in writing novels. He wrote more than 100 short stories and 12 medium and long novels. The genre of short stories in modern India was founded by him, and the first batch of social psychological novels in India were also written by him. He is the founder of modern realist novels in India. There are more than 40 plays written by Tagore, all of which have a unique style. Tagore also wrote many prose, which also have profound philosophy and exquisite language, which can be regarded as a model of modern prose. In addition, Tagore also engaged in composition and painting. He composed and wrote more than 2,500 songs. Tagore also left many watercolors and sketches, about 3,000. Tagore also had close contacts with China, visiting the country for a month and a half in 1924. Tagore's fame resounded throughout India and beyond. In 1912, when Tagore traveled to London, he recited his collection of lyrical poems with a strong oriental atmosphere, "Gitanjali", which was later organized and published by the famous British poet Pound. The following year, Tagore won the Nobel Prize in Literature for the publication of this collection of poems. Tagore was so diligent in his life that he became sick from overwork. On the morning of July 23, 1941, he wrote his last poem before stepping onto the operating table. At 12:45, the surgery was over, and the doctor announced that the patient's physique was unexpectedly strong. However, his condition began to deteriorate the next day. At 12:13 PM on August 7, Tagore passed away.
