British writer and poet Samuel Johnson has died

Samuel Johnson
On December 3, 1784, English writer, literary critic, and poet Samuel Johnson passed away and was buried in Westminster Abbey Cemetery.
In 1737, he began to write articles for the "Gentleman's Magazine". Later, he edited the weekly "Rambler" (1750-1752). After nine years of struggle, he finally compiled the "English Dictionary" (1755). Johnson became famous from then on. In 1764, he helped Reynolds to establish a literary club, and the participants included Boswell, Goldsmith, Burke and others, who played a role in promoting the development of culture at that time. Important works in his life include the long poem "London" (1738), "The Illusion of Human Desire" (1749), "The Prince of Abyssinia" (1759), etc. He also edited "The Collection of Shakespeare" (1765).
The British are fickle. Some say that the British perception of life has changed more in the past 50 years than in the past 250 years. However, Samuel Johnson, born in 1709, has never wavered from his position as the most popular literati in Britain for 300 years. On the 200th anniversary of Samuel Johnson's death on December 13, 1984, The Times said that Johnson was more qualified than anyone else to be "Britain's patron saint" because "language is the main glory of the British", and Johnson's talent and work were one of the important factors that made English the "world language". It is no exaggeration to say that Johnson is a "national treasure" of the United Kingdom.
