At 8:20 a.m., the ceremony began, with Chiang Kai-shek as the chief priest, Feng Yuxiang, Yan Xishan, and Li Zongren-xiang: Wu Zhihui, a representative of the Party Department of the Central Committee, Zhou Zhenlin, a member of the National Government, Jiang Zuobin, the chairperson of the Field Affairs Committee, Bai Chongxi, Lu Zhonglin, Zhu Peide, and other senior commanders of each group army, as well as He Qigong, the mayor of Peiping Special City, and hundreds of representatives from the political branch of Peiping and the business and academic circles. The mourning hall was solemnly decorated: the national flag and the four-character horizontal plaque "Spirit Immortality" were hung on the top, the national flag and the party flag were crossed at the entrance, and an incense table was placed in front of the coffin. A portrait of Sun Yat-sen enlarged to 5 feet was hung above, and the phrases "The world is for the public" and " There is an elegiac couplet of Kong Xiangxi and Wu Mulan in front of the soul. The ceremony began with mourning music, flowers were offered by the chief priest, and all bowed three times. Then Shang Zhen read the sacrificial text of the Kuomintang Central Executive Committee and the sacrificial text of Chiang Kai-shek. Then the master of ceremonies announced that the chief priest, Kai Xiang, would pay tribute to the prime minister's remains, and the wake guards would uncover the spirit. When Chiang Kai-shek saw Sun Yat-sen's remains, he suddenly stroked the coffin and wept. Feng Yuxiang and Yan Xishan also wept frequently. The atmosphere in the audience was very sad, but Li Zongren stood by the side without shedding a single tear. Chiang Kai-shek wept for a long time before he stopped crying.
