On this day, 88 years ago, on July 30, 1937 (June 23, 1937, the lunar calendar), Pingjin fell. From July 29 to 30, 1937, Peiping and Tianjin, important towns in North China, fell one after another. After the Lugouqiao Incident, in order to further expand the war of aggression against China, the Japanese government dispatched the 1st, 11th Brigade and 12th Division of the Kwantung Army from Northeast China and Korea, and dispatched the 5th Division of the Bantan Army from Japan to North China to strengthen the stationed army of China. By July 16, 1937, Japan's troops in North China had reached 5 divisions. After a large number of new reinforcements arrived, the Japanese army launched a large-scale offensive on Peiping and Tianjin in late July. On the 26th, the Japanese army captured Langfang. On the 28th, the Japanese army launched a general attack on Nanyuan, Beiyuan and Xiyuan in the suburbs of Peiping. The officers and soldiers of the 29th Army stationed in China fought heroically against the Japanese invaders, but failed to stop the Japanese offensive. Deputy Commander Tong Linge and Commander Zhao Dengyu died for the country. On the 29th, Peiping was occupied by the Japanese army. On the same day, a unit of the 38th Division of the Tianjin Garrison Force engaged in a fierce battle with the Japanese garrison troops. On the 30th, the Japanese army sent more troops to Tianjin from Dagukou. China garrison troops were ordered to withdraw from the battle, and Tianjin was occupied by the Japanese army.
