But on the third day, a Greek traitor led the Persian army to take a small path to attack the rear of Lionida. Lionida was unable to resist and had to order the Peloponnese army to withdraw first and use his own 300 elite soldiers to defend Thermopylae. After some fierce fighting, the entire Spartan army was destroyed, but his heroic deeds were passed down to future generations and admired by future generations.
