Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On September 9, 1958, China's first diesel electric locomotive was successfully trial-produced
On this day, 67 years ago, on September 9, 1958 (July 26, 1958, the lunar calendar), China's first diesel electric locomotive was successfully trial-produced. In 1958, Beijing Erqi Locomotive Factory successfully trial-produced the "Construction" electric drive diesel locomotive. This type of car is not mass-produced. On September 9, 1958, Beijing Changxindian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory (i.e. Beijing Erqi Locomotive Factory, referred to as Erqi Factory) imitated the Hungarian ND1 locomotive and trial-produced the first new China diesel locomotive, a construction-type DC electric transmission shunting diesel locomotive, and conducted trial operation on the line. In the late 1950s, with the acceleration of the internalization of railways in the world and the rapid development of railway transportation in China, inspired by the spirit of the Second Plenary Session of the Eighth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the leaders of Beijing Changxindian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory sprouted the idea of manufacturing diesel locomotives, which was supported by the Ministry of Railways and the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. Acting factory director Huang Yingfu led engineering and technical personnel to collect relevant information from various sources, and seconded an ND1 locomotive imported from Hungary from Jining to make a trial prototype. The factory has also established a diesel locomotive office to coordinate trial production. Teachers and students from Tangshan Railway College, Beijing Railway College and Beijing Institute of Technology also heard the news and rushed to assist in the disintegration and surveying and mapping. On August 31, 1958, the first diesel locomotive in New China-the construction DC electric transmission shunting diesel locomotive was assembled and officially rolled off the production line on September 9. All more than 30,000 parts of the locomotive were made in China. The diesel engine used in this locomotive has a loading power of 441 kilowatts, a deadweight of 60 tons, and a top speed of 85 kilometers per hour.
