Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The victory of the Moscow armed uprising on November 15, 1917
108 years ago today, November 15, 1917 (the first day of the tenth lunar month), the armed uprising in Moscow was won. After news of the Petrograd uprising reached Moscow on November 7, 1917, the local Bolshevik Party organization immediately established a military headquarters to lead the uprising, and the Moscow Soviet of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies elected a revolutionary military council, including the Mensheviks. Bolshevik leaders Norgen and Molov were the main leaders of the uprising. Most of the garrison in Moscow was on the side of the revolution, and the revolutionary soldiers occupied the General Post and Telegraph Office and took control of the Kremlin. But the leaders of the uprising went to negotiate with the "Security Council" headed by the mayor of Moscow, the right-wing Socialist-Revolutionaries Rusnev, believing that the bourgeoisie could be forced out of power without armed struggle, but only by the deterrence of the revolutionary forces. The counter-revolution took advantage of the opportunity of the negotiation to piece together 40,000 of the counter-revolutionary armed forces. On the evening of the 9th, the "Security Council" broke off negotiations, declared martial law in the city, sent heavy troops to surround the Kremlin, and issued an ultimatum, demanding that the Kremlin be ceded, the Revolutionary Military Council be dissolved, and its members be tried in court. After the ultimatum was rejected, the counter-revolutionary army counterattacked frantically, recaptured the General Post and Telecommunications Office, re-occupied the Kremlin, and killed nearly 300 soldiers and civilians. On the 11th, the Revolutionary Military Council ordered the uprising to launch a resolute attack, and 50,000 Red Guards and revolutionary soldiers fought against the enemy, recaptured some strongholds, and advanced on the Kremlin. Lenin also sent Baltic Fleet sailors and Petrograd Red Guards to Moscow to support the uprising. On the afternoon of the 14th, the Security Council signed a surrender agreement. That night, the Revolutionary Military Council announced the victory of the armed uprising in Moscow. On the 15th, the revolutionary forces wiped out the resistance of the die-hards, captured the Kremlin, and the Moscow uprising was victorious.
