Thirty years ago today, on November 3, 1995 (September 11, 1995 lunar calendar), Zhi Zhiming became the first member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Hong Kong and Macao. On November 3, 1995, among the new batch of academicians announced by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhi Zhiming, a professor of chemistry at the University of Hong Kong, became the first elected member in Hong Kong and Macao. At the age of 37, he is also the youngest among the 579 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After receiving his doctorate from the University of Hong Kong in 1982, Zhi Zhiming has been engaged in basic research in inorganic chemistry for a long time. He has made systematic and creative achievements and contributions in the fields of inorganic photochemistry, oxidation reactions and catalytic mechanisms, and bioinorganic chemistry. The Chinese Academy of Sciences awarded him the "National Natural Science Award" last year. Zhi Zhiming, a 37-year-old native of Hong Kong, completed primary school, secondary school and university in Hong Kong. Zhi Zhiming's current research areas are photochemistry and asymmetric synthetic materials science. The research of asymmetric synthetic materials science is very important for improving drug production technology, reducing costs, and helping to synthesize some new drugs. This kind of chemical research has attracted much attention and fierce competition in the world. Professor Zhi led some doctoral and master's students to conduct research with satisfactory results. His academic achievements have received international attention and recognition. In 1994, he was invited to participate in the 30th Symposium on Inorganic Coordination Chemistry held in Tokyo, and delivered academic reports on the same stage with famous professors from Harvard University, Oxford University, and the University of Tokyo, which were well received. Chi Zhiming also serves as an advisory member of the Institute of Chemistry of Academia Sinica in Taiwan and a consultant professor at Beijing Institute of Technology. Faced with the fact that Hong Kong is about to return to the embrace of the motherland after "1997", Chi Zhiming chose to stay in Hong Kong to serve the motherland. In order to understand and understand the social conditions, customs and ideas of the mainland, he began to contact the mainland academic community two years ago to deepen understanding and learn from each other.
