Twenty-seven years ago today, December 31, 1998 (November 13, 1998 in the lunar calendar), dictator Pinochet was tried in a foreign country. When Pinochet was in power, he monopolized the military and political affairs with a murderous look. After retirement, he traveled overseas, enjoying the wealth accumulated during his tenure while making cups and exchanging etiquette. This dream that many dictators had dreamed began to be shattered after Pinochet's arrest. Pinochet came to London in October, his first trip abroad since becoming a civilian-and he felt as safe as ever. Britain was his favorite country, and airport officials were very polite to him. Pinochet was leisurely shopping in London, having lunch, and drinking tea with his old friend former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, which made him very happy. But suddenly something went wrong with the body and required surgery. On October 16, Pinochet was awakened by Scotland Yard police officers holding a Spanish arrest warrant. In a hurry, Pinochet did not even understand what was going on. The one who set off the storm was Baltasa Goro, a thin and respectable judge known as a "super judge" who was adept at hearing drug, corruption and terrorist cases. There are still many former dictators who are doing well-the law can't touch them. Amin of Uganda has lived in Saudi Arabia since 1979. Alferedo Stosenle ruled Paraguay for 35 years and now lives a stable and semi-reclusive life. Today, the United Nations has planned to establish an international tribunal to hear such cases in the long term.
