Breaking-News >> TodayHistory July 27, 1994 Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Kevin Carter committed suicide
On this day, 31 years ago, on July 27, 1994 (June 19, 1994 in the lunar calendar), Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Kevin Carter committed suicide. Carter's award-winning work: A hungry Sudanese child is struggling on the verge of death, while a bald eagle is watching closely, waiting for the child to die, so that he can enjoy a Pulitzer Prize-winning and South African photographer Kevin Carter, was found dead in his pickup truck on July 27, 1994. He apparently committed suicide at the age of 33. In 1993, Carter and Silva rushed to the northern border to film the insurgency in the hungry Sudan. As soon as the plane landed in the village of Iad, Carter immediately began to film the hungry people. To relax himself from the tragic sight of piles of starving people, he walked into the bushes. At this time, he heard a weak cry as a little girl was struggling to crawl towards the food distribution center. Just as he squatted down to take pictures, a large eagle landed in the lens. Carter carefully chose the angle to try not to scare the eagle. He later said he had waited there for 20 minutes, hoping that the eagle would spread its wings. After taking the photos, Carter drove the eagle away. Watching the little girl continue to stumble. Then he sat under the tree, lit a cigarette, and cried loudly while chanting God's name. Sylva recalled the scene: Carter kept muttering and trying to hug his daughter. On April 18, a group from the "Pingping Club" went to Tokoza again to film a violent incident. Because the sun was too strong, Carter returned to the city. On the radio he heard that his close friend Osterbrouck had been shot dead in Tokoza and Moninovic was seriously injured. Oosterbrooke's death completely defeated Carter. He returned to Tokoza the next day, although the violence remained tense. He said he should be the one who should be shot, not Ken. According to friends, Carter began to talk openly about suicide, partly because of Mitterrand and, more importantly, because of his anxiety about money. He was already beyond his means. So he happily accepted a mission to set off for Mozambique. Despite setting three alarms, he missed the early flight and, to make matters worse, when he returned from Mozambique, he left a pack of undeveloped film on his seat. When he discovered his mistake and drove to the airport, there was nothing left. Carter wanted to die. On July 27, the last day of Carter's life, he seemed happy. He stayed in bed until noon when he went out to take a picture. He confided his pain to friends and was advised to see a psychiatrist. Carter was last seen by Osterbrook's widow Monica. As night fell, Carter arrived uninvited and told her about himself. Monica, who had not fully recovered from the grief of her husband's death, certainly could not provide him with any comfort. The time is approximately 5:30. At 19 p.m., Carter drove his long red car to the River of Bremfonte Ensprott. He used to play here when he was a child. He used silver tape to secure a garden hose to the exhaust pipe and fed it through the window into the car. Wearing unwashed jeans and a T-shirt, he started the car, turned on the Walkman next to him, and used a bag to rest under his head as a pillow. The suicide note he left behind is full of nightmarish ravings. He tried hard to write down his life, analyze his character, and explain and apologize. After returning from New York, he wrote: "Bad mood, no phone... No money to pay rent... money!! I am haunted by vivid memories of murders, corpses, anger, pain, hunger, injured children, happy lunatics, always cops, always butchers..."Then: If I am lucky, I will go to Ken."
