Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On November 19, 1995, the Egyptian Embassy in Pakistan was bombed
Thirty years ago today, on November 19, 1995 (September 27, 1995 lunar calendar), the Egyptian embassy in Pakistan was bombed. On November 19, 1995, a bomb exploded at the Egyptian embassy in Pakistan at around 10:40 am local time, killing 17 people and injuring 49 others on the spot. The dead included five Egyptians, one Afghan, the rest were Pakistanis, and two other bodies could not be identified due to incomplete bodies. When the explosion occurred, people from dozens of kilometers away heard a loud explosion. The powerful shock wave from the explosion shattered the glass of the National Assembly building in Pakistan, which was a kilometer away from the accident site. After the explosion, the Egyptian embassy was in a mess. The main building of the embassy was in ruins. A large crater with a diameter of about 5 meters was blown up by bombs near the inside of the embassy gate, and some broken car wreckage was still left inside. About 20 meters away from the crater was the embassy parking lot, and the six cars parked inside were completely blown up. Some buildings around the Egyptian embassy were also damaged to varying degrees. Six employees of the British GRINDLY Bank next to the Egyptian embassy were seriously injured, and the nearby Japanese embassy and the National Library of Pakistan were also scratched by shattered glass. After the explosion, Pakistan's Interior Minister Babar, who received the news, rushed to the scene and organized people to rescue and protect and investigate the scene. The case is still under investigation and cannot be concluded yet. According to some well-informed sources at the scene at the time, an Egyptian extremist group has claimed responsibility to the press for the incident. In addition to the bombed buildings and damaged cars, there are many broken limbs and even a complete foot of the people who were killed. According to the police at the scene, passers-by saw a car drive into the Egyptian embassy before the bombing, and soon after heard an earth-shattering explosion. Just before the aftermath of the first explosion disappeared, the second explosion sounded again. According to the results of the subsequent investigation, the first bomb exploded at the gate of the embassy, which was probably a car bomb. The second bomb exploded in the lobby of the first floor of the embassy office building, where about 17 people were at the time. The Egyptian ambassador's palace was also in the Egyptian embassy compound, which was 10 meters away from the bombed office building. There was no major damage except for the shattering of the glass. The Egyptian ambassador, Dr. Norman Jalal, was working in the office building at the time. Fortunately, his office was on the back side of the building, which saved him from the fatal blow. At around 12:45, the commander of the 10th Army of the Pakistani Army, General Ali Guli Khan, rushed to the scene with several trucks of soldiers from the Pakistani Army headquarters in Rawalpindi and quickly blocked various passages leading to the Egyptian embassy. At around 12:55, about two hours after the incident, Palestinian Foreign Minister Ali and Foreign Secretary Sheikh also arrived at the scene. They asked in detail what happened and expressed their grief over the tragedy. At Pakistan's federal government hospital and the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences, 13 confirmed dead were parked in mortuaries. Dozens of other injured people are also receiving various treatments under the active care of healthcare workers. On the wall outside the hospital door were lists of the dead and injured, as well as blood types that needed to be donated. All kinds of people came and went, all stunned by the unprepared explosion.
