Later, he served as a member of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. During the White Terror, he traveled between Guangzhou and Hong Kong to carry out secret work. He arrived in Shanghai in the summer of 1928 and served as Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. In June, he attended the Sixth National Congress of the Communist Party of China and was elected as a member of the Central Committee and alternate member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee. In 1928, he was appointed as a member of the Political Bureau. From 1929 to 1930, he served as Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the Southern Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Secretary of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. In January 1931, he was elected as an alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after the Fourth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was re-elected. After the meeting, he served as acting chairman and party secretary of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, guiding the workers 'movement in Shanghai and other places. In the summer of the same year, he was sent to Northeast China and served as the representative of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in Northeast China. After the September 18th Incident, he helped the Manchu Provincial Party Committee lead workers and students to strike and organize peasant riots, and launch a massive anti-Japanese struggle. In November, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Soviet Republic of China, and served as Secretary of the Manchu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of the Organization Department. In June 1932, he was criticized at the Northern Conference convened by the wrong "leftist" leadership of the Provisional Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and was dismissed from his post as provincial party secretary after the meeting. In December, he was transferred back to Shanghai and served as Secretary of the Shanghai Executive Bureau of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. In February 1933, he was arrested due to a traitor's whistleblower and was detained in Shanghai and Nanjing one after another. He was subjected to various forms of torture in prison and would rather die than surrender. He was killed in Yuhuatai, Nanjing on August 29.
