In 1904, seventeen-year-old Xu Yongchang was changed from a military coolie to a clerk. In 1908, Ma Yukun, the prefect of Zhili Province, approved the establishment of the Military Wei Zuojun School. Among the 160 people who were admitted, the second-to-last place entered the school. He liked the four courses most: tactics, algebra, triangle, and history, and ranked first in every examination.
In 1912 (the first year of the Republic of China), Yongchang was admitted to the General School of the Ministry of the Army. In the winter of 2 years, Yongchang graduated with the first place and distributed the company commander of the Nanjing Army Reserve Officer School. Before resigning, he was admitted to the fourth phase of the Army University. Enrolled at the beginning of 3 years, the instructors were worse than those in the General School, and the Japanese instructors were also suspected of detectives. A graduation ceremony was held at the end of 1916, and President Li Yuanhong watched the ceremony in person.
On September 2, 1945, the General Surrender Ceremony of the Allied Powers in Tokyo Bay was held on the deck of the battleship Missouri. As the four victorious powers of the United States, China, and the Soviet Union, the second representative of China appeared to sign. On that day, the Japanese government surrendered on behalf of Foreign Minister Shigemitsu and Chief of Staff of the Base Camp Mijiro Umezu. At 9:00 am (Tokyo time), the signing ceremony was held, presided over by Supreme Commander MacArthur of the Allied Powers. The surrender document is one foot five inches long and one foot wide, a total of two copies.
After the Japanese surrender representatives Shigemitsu Kui and Mijiro Umezu signed it. After MacArthur, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, signed it, according to the order of the victorious countries, the first to appear was the American representative General Nimitz, the second to appear was the Chinese representative General Xu Yongchang, the third to appear was the British representative General Flasser, and the fourth to appear was the Soviet representative General Dirivyanko. After the four victorious countries of the Allied Forces signed it, the senior generals of Australia, Canada, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand and other countries signed in turn.
