Zhang Ce has practiced boxing techniques such as Foot Posting, Erlang Boxing, and Black Tiger Boxing since he was a child. Later, he met the wandering monk Jinling Xiao and learned the Five Monkey Arm Boxing. When he was twelve years old, he was ambushed by someone due to family reasons, so he angrily left home and entered Beijing. He worshipped Hou Yang Jianhou, the successor of Yang-style Taijiquan, and practiced Yang-style Taijiquan for more than 20 years. At the same time, he also worshipped the old monk Chen Qing and practiced full-arm boxing for seven or eight years. When Zhang Ce was in his prime, he was given a full-arm boxing by Wang Zhanchun, the successor of the "Qijiamen"(from Beihuang Xinzhuang, Liang Township, South Beijing). Wang Zhanchun was more than ten years older than Zhang Ce. Because they were both disciples of Chen Qing and had a deep relationship with each other, they only addressed each other as brothers. Wang and Zhang had been sparring with each other for nine years. After Wang Zhanchun passed away, Zhang Ce happened to meet an old Taoist surnamed Han and was instructed by Taoist Taoist Han to practice. At this point, Zhang Ce learned from the strengths of others and learned the mysteries of martial arts. His arm-boxing reached the peak, becoming a martial arts master who was proficient in arm and Tai Chi. Because Zhang Ce often wore iron shoes weighing more than 20 kilograms to practice, he was praised as the "Arm Saint" and "Iron Shoes" by the martial arts world. On October 11, 1934, Beiping's "People's Voice" reported: "Zhang Ce, an expert with arms, is also known as Xiulin, and is good at martial arts... He often traveled north outside the Pass and south to Qilu and other places. Wherever he traveled, he became famous. He once set up halls in Shenyang, Peiping and other places to teach disciples. As a result, peaches and plums were half the world, and his disciples scattered around to discuss Zhang's skills. Many expressed admiration. Zhang Ce's father's name is Zhang Jinkui. Zhang Ce practiced foot poking, Erlang boxing and Black Tiger boxing since childhood. Every morning, a group of young men practiced martial arts under the guidance of Master Zhang Daxiang on the martial arts field in front of the East Temple of Mashenmiao Village. Time flowed like water. In the blink of an eye, Zhang Ce had been learning boxing from his master Zhang Daxiang for a year. He went out early and returned late. He was very diligent. Zhang Jinkui was happy to see that his son was improving so quickly. He specially asked the blacksmith to make a pair of small iron shoes and an iron vest for Zhang Ce. In the winter of Zhang Ce's seventh year, his father died. Zhang Ce's mother was so sad that she couldn't survive the illness. Before his death, his mother entrusted Zhang Ce to Zhang Daxiang and followed her husband away. Zhang Ce cried loudly and did not think about food and tea for several days. The tempering of life has made Ce Xiaozhang more sensible than ordinary children and practiced boxing harder. From then on, he insisted on getting up at midnight every day to practice martial arts until dawn. After early morning, he went to the temple in the east of the village to practice martial arts with Zhang Daxiang and spar with his brothers. Later, he met the wandering monk Jinling Xiao and learned the Five Monkey Arm Boxing. Zhang Ce had a good relationship with Sun Lutang, Wu Jianquan, Chu Minyi, Xu Yusheng, Ji Zixiu and other martial arts masters, and had a better relationship with Sun Lutang. Zhang Ce always treated them like a brother, and was praised by his peers. In 1924, Zhang Ce was invited by Zhang Zuolin to Shenyang to work as a bodyguard and teach his two sons. After Zhang Zuolin died in the Huanggutun Incident in 1928, Zhang Ce was appointed as deputy director of the Fengtian Martial Arts Museum. After the September 18 Incident in 1931, he returned to Peiping and taught at the Peiping Martial Arts Museum. In the summer of 1933, the Central Martial Arts Museum was preparing for the second National Martial Arts Examination in Nanjing. The organizers invited Zhang Ce to serve as deputy chief referee in Nanjing. Zhang Ce took office and stayed at the Central Martial Arts Museum to teach after the examination. Zhang Ce's disciples spread all over the world, including Han Zhanao, Zhou Jinghai, Zhou Xueyi, Zhang Dianhua, Li Xiangyun, Qiang Yunmen, Wu Tunan, Zhang Xueming, Zhang Xuesi (sons of Zhang Zuolin), Li Wanchun, Ma Xichun, Dong Xiusheng, Fu Kunmao, Li Shutang, Zhang Yiqian, etc. Zhang Ce learned the strengths of many families throughout his life, absorbed the outstanding achievements of his predecessors, and integrated Tai Chi into Tong-arm martial arts. He was the first person to create "Tong-arm Tai Chi" boxing, enabling himself to achieve perfection, perfection, and arbitrary artistic level. It is the latest peak in the history of Tong-arm martial arts that no one can cross. The famous martial artist Wu Tunan praised in his "Introduction to National Arts":"In the early years of Guangxu, there was Zhang Ce, also known as Xiulin. He was a native of Xianghe in Zhili. He was proficient in boxing techniques of various families. He was generous and righteous, and was humble in nature. He went to learn from the name of Chen. Soon after, Chen died and went on a spring outing with his senior brother Wang Zhan. He carefully studied it for nine years, and his skills began to be developed. In the places of Shan, Shan, Yan and Zhao, there is no one better than him. He is the most proficient in sword skills in his life. There are celebrities in all directions, and every time they compare with them, the sword will fall to the ground... The author first met Mr. Li in the capital in the summer of the 22nd year of the Republic of China. He talked about the principles of swordsmanship. It was wonderful and he hated meeting him late. So Wu Jianquan introduced him and greeted him at the door of Mr. Because of the rush of time, I only learned the application of knife techniques and didn't have the time to study boxing, sword, and spear. Looking back on it to this day, I feel disappointed!" Zhang Ce broke the rules of closed, conservative and secretive doors, recruited many apprentices, spread his skills, and was highly respected. He was praised as the "Arm Saint" and "Iron Shoes", and was worthy of being a generation of martial arts masters. Photo: Zhang Ce
