On this day, 80 years ago, on October 10, 1945 (September 5, 1945 in the lunar calendar), the Kuomintang and the Communist Party signed the "Double Tenth Agreement." The Kuomintang expressed its agreement with the basic policy of peaceful nation-building, recognized the equal legal status of all parties and certain democratic rights of the people, and promised to convene a political consultative conference, but refused to recognize the regime in the Jiefang District and the army in the Jiefang District. The minutes stated: "The Chinese Communist Party proposed that the government should fairly and reasonably reorganize the national army, determine a phased implementation plan, re-delineate military regions, and determine a system of recruitment and compensation to seek the unification of military orders. Under this plan, the Communist Party of China is willing to reduce the number of anti-Japanese troops it leads from the current number to 24 commanders and at least 20 divisions. It also expresses that it can quickly demobilize the anti-Japanese troops it leads and spread in the Jiefang District north of the Longhai Road and northern Anhui. The government stated: The national reorganization plan is underway. If all the issues raised for discussion this time can be comprehensively resolved, the reduction of the anti-Japanese army led by the Communist Party of China to 20 divisions can be considered. At 4 p.m., Chiang Kai-shek went to Zeng Jiayan to visit Mao Zedong. After a 10-minute meeting, they drove to the National Government to attend a cocktail party. That night, Mao Zedong responded to Chiang Kai-shek's invitation and went to the cave official residence for a chat, and stayed at Chiang Kai-shek's official residence. On October 11, after living in Chongqing for 45 days, Mao Zedong flew back to Yan 'an at 9:45 a.m. accompanied by Zhang Zhizhong and Wang Ruofei. Zhou Enlai stayed in Chongqing to continue negotiations. At 1 p.m. that day, Mao Zedong and others flew to Yan 'an and were welcomed by more than 20,000 people at the airport. Mao Zedong made a brief speech at the airport, explaining that the negotiations had achieved preliminary results. Although there were still difficulties ahead, they could be overcome and China's future was infinitely bright. That night, Mao Zedong reported on the Chongqing negotiations at the Political Conference of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the meeting agreed on the summary of the Kuomintang and Communist Party talks.
