On August 17, 1987 (the 23rd day of the lunar calendar), Hess, the deputy leader of the German Nazi Party, died. Hess participated in the beer shop riot in 1923 and fled to Austria after failing. Later, at Hitler's call, he returned to Germany and surrendered, recording and sorting out "Mein Kampf" dictated by Hitler in prison and after his release from prison. In 1925, he served as Hitler's private secretary. In 1932, he served as Chairman of the Central Political Committee of the Nazi Party and was elected a member of the Nazi Party in the same year. In April 1933, he was appointed by Hitler as deputy leader of the Nazi Party and actively supported Hitler's expansion and preparation for war. In September 1939, he was officially designated by Hitler as the successor to the Fuhrer after Goering. On May 10, 1941, he secretly flew a plane to fly to Britain, leaving behind a major mystery of the 20th century. He was tried at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg after World War II. In October 1946, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiracy and breach of peace. In 1987, he died of suffocation in prison in West Berlin.
