On July 15, 2005 (June 10, 2005 lunar calendar), the "Macao Historic District" was included in the "World Heritage List". On July 15, 2005, the 29th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Durban, South Africa unanimously agreed to include the "Macao Historic District" as a world cultural heritage in the "World Heritage List". The "Macao Historic District" became China's 31st World Heritage Site. The heritage includes more than 20 historical buildings such as the Ma Ge Temple and the Grand Samba Archway and related traditional blocks. It reflects the profound tradition of Chinese culture and its tolerance, and brings together and preserves the crystallization of the blending of Eastern and Western civilizations. This is the first time since Hong Kong and Macao returned to the motherland that the SAR has applied for a World Heritage Site and was successful.
