Emperor Wu of Han

Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty Liu Che (July 14, 156 BC [1] -March 29, 87 BC), the seventh emperor of the Western Han Dynasty, was an outstanding politician, strategist, and poet.

Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty ascended the throne at the age of sixteen. In order to consolidate the imperial power, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty established the Central Dynasty, set up local governors, and created an inspection system to select talents. Adopt Zhufuyan's suggestion, issue a decree of persuasion, resolve the power of the kingdom, and return salt, iron and coinage rights to the central government. Culturally, Dong Zhongshu's suggestion was adopted to "abolish the hundreds of schools and respect Confucianism alone", ending the situation of "teachers with different ways, people with different theories, and hundreds of schools with different methods" since the pre-Qin period. During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, he conquered the barbarians and expanded the country's prestige. He merged Korea in the east, swallowed Baiyue in the south, conquered Dawan in the west, and defeated Xiongnu in the north. This laid the basic scope of the Han Dynasty and created a prosperous situation for the Han Dynasty and Wu Dynasty. Measures such as opening up the Silk Road and establishing the year titles, promulgating the Taichu Calendar, and promoting the Imperial College also had far-reaching impacts.

Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty made achievements in various fields, but in the later period of his reign, he was militaristic and caused the disaster of witchcraft, which left a negative comment on it. In the fourth year of Zhenghe (89 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty issued an edict to commit crimes. In the second year of Houyuan (87 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty died in Wuzuo Palace at the age of 70. He was posthumously named Emperor Xiaowu and his temple name was Shizong. He was buried in Maoling.
