June 17, 2012 Chen Tinghua, founder of Hong Kong Nan Fung Group, passed away
On June 17, 2012 (April 28, 2012), Chen Tinghua, founder of Hong Kong Nan Fung Group, passed away. Chen Tinghua (1923-2012), male, founder of Hong Kong Nan Fung Group. Born in a poor family in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in 1923, Chen Tinghua started as a textile. In 1949, he left Shanghai to come to Hong Kong and founded Nan Fung Textile in 1954. In 1970, "Nan Fung Textile" went public and its business performance ranked among the best in the industry for more than ten consecutive years. Chen Tinghua was dubbed the "King of Cotton Yarn". Chen Tinghua started investing in real estate and stocks in 1976, and as a result, he became one of the super-rich. In 1997, Nan Fung Group bought more than 12% of the shares of "Sino Real Estate". Chen Tinghua is currently the chairperson of Nan Fung Textile United Limited and Nan Fung Development Limited. He passed away due to illness on June 17, 2012.
