On this day, 62 years ago, November 18, 1963 (October 3, 1963 in the lunar calendar), a new military coup occurred in Iraq. On November 18, 1963, Iraq President Arif launched a new military coup. According to Baghdad Radio, a new "National Council for the Revolutionary Command" headed by Iraq President Arif has been established. Baghdad Radio said Arif has ordered the immediate disbanding of the Iraq National Guard, requiring members of the National Guard to immediately hand over their weapons to the army, and those who disobey will be shot dead on the spot. The National Guard is an armed organization of the Arab Baath Socialist Party. It was established after the party seized power in Iraq in February of that year. The party has been deeply divided internally for five days. On November 13, an armed conflict broke out between the faction led by former Deputy Prime Minister and National Guidance Minister Sadi and the faction led by Interior Minister Javad and Foreign Minister Shebib. Subsequently, the general leadership of the Arab Baath Socialist Party headed by Aflaq announced that it had taken over the responsibilities of the party's regional leadership in Iraq.
