On July 24, 2014, an Algeria Air passenger plane disappeared
On July 24, 2014 (June 28, 2014 in the lunar calendar), the Algeria Air passenger plane lost contact. On July 24, 2014, Algeria announced that one of its aircraft had lost contact 50 minutes after taking off from Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The missing flight number was AH5017 and was actually leased a Spanish SwiftAir MD-83 aircraft with registration number EC-LTV. The aircraft was delivered in August 1996. Swiftair's fleet has a total of four MD-83 passenger aircraft, registration numbers EC-KCX/JUG/LEY/LTV, and delivery dates were June 1988, May 1989, September 1993 and August 1996 respectively. The operator SwiftAir of Spain has issued a statement on its official website confirming that the plane was missing. There were 110 passengers, 2 pilots and 4 flight attendants on board. (Star Sky) This MD-83 passenger aircraft has an MSN production serial number of 53190. It was shipped in June 1996 and is 18.2 years old. It is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines. Before being delivered to Swiftair for operation, it was operated by as many as 7 airlines.
