131 years ago today, on August 1, 1894 (July 1, 1894 in the lunar calendar), China and Japan declared war, and the Sino-Japanese War broke out in full swing. In January 1894, the Dongxue Party Uprising broke out in southern Korea. The North Korean government asked the Qing Dynasty to send troops to suppress it. On June 5, the Qing Dynasty ordered Nie Shicheng, the general soldier of Taiyuan, and Ye Zhichao, the governor of Zhili, to lead 2,000 troops to North Korea and stationed in Asan. The Japanese also sent heavy troops to occupy strategic points from Incheon to Seoul on the grounds of protecting the embassy and expatriates. Soon, the Dongxue Party uprising died down, and the Qing government suggested that China and Japan withdraw their troops at the same time. The Japanese refused to withdraw in order to help North Korea "reform". On July 23, the Japanese army broke into the Korean palace, captured the king, and supported the puppets. On the 25th, Japanese warships attacked the Chinese escort "Tanjiang" and the soldier ship "Gaosheng" in the waters of Toyoshima without declaring war. On the 29th, the Japanese army invaded the Qing army station in Asan. On August 1st, China and Japan declared war at the same time, and the Sino-Japanese War broke out in full swing.
