On this day, 148 years ago, September 24, 1877 (August 18, 1877 in the lunar calendar), the Southwest War of Japan came to an end. On September 24, 1877, the Japanese Southwest War ended. On that day, after 23 days of siege, Kagoshima Chengshan, the nest held by the rebels in Yongsheng in Xixiang, was captured. Xixiang was shot and committed suicide. Most of the 400 people guarding the city also died. At this point, the last and largest feudal warrior rebellion during the Meiji Restoration in Japan was put down.
