On this day, 51 years ago, May 18, 1974 (April 27, 1974 in the lunar calendar), the central government issued a notice on several policy issues regarding the approval of forests and holes. On May 18, 1974, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "Notice on Several Policy Issues Concerning the Campaign to Criticize Forests and Confucius." The document states: "Chairman Mao has read it." The main contents of the "Notice" are as follows: First, at present, we must pay attention to grasping the party's policies, and pay attention to strictly distinguishing and correctly handling two types of contradictions of different nature, so as to help unite 95% of the people and strive for greater victories in criticizing forests and Confucius. 2. During the movement, the broad masses exposed and criticized many people and events related to Lin Biao's anti-Party clique. This was absolutely necessary. However, leaders must pay attention to limiting the scope of the investigation to issues related to the conspiracy activities of the Lin Biao anti-Party group and not expanding it. In terms of time, we should be based on Chairman Mao's inspection of various places in August and September 1971 to greet him; and based on hearing the Communication Zhongfa Document (1971) No. 51. As long as we explain it clearly to the party and draw a clear line with the Lin Biao anti-Party clique, we should no longer settle these old scores. 3. Determine that leading organs and units at the army, navy and air force below the army level should all adhere to positive education during the campaign to criticize forests and Confucius. 4. Strengthen the theoretical team of Marxism. Gradually build a grand theoretical team to enable the whole party and the entire army to be capable of literature and martial arts.
