At midnight on July 21, 1654 (June 8, 11th year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty), an earthquake of magnitude 8 occurred in Tianshui, Gansu Province. The earthquake caused the two mountains of Luojiapu to be pulled into one. The area around Mudanli was blocked by landslides and the sea buried the village for nearly ten miles. In the fourth year of Yongzheng (1726), the water dried up and turned into fertile farmland.
