Breaking-News >> TodayHistory August 31, 1944 Poles Uprising in Warsaw
81 years ago today, on August 31, 1944 (July 13, 1944 in the lunar calendar), the Poles revolted in Warsaw. On August 31, 1944, the Polish people, with the support and encouragement of the Soviet Union and the Polish government-in-exile, revolted in Warsaw against German rule. As the Soviet army marched on Warsaw, the leader of the Polish secret force warned the Polish government-in-exile in London that the Soviet Union would be a new oppressor. Bor Komorowski believes that the committee formed in Lublin is a puppet of Moscow. The general also hoped that the campaign against the Nazis should be led by the Poles rather than the Soviet Union. The Polish government-in-exile agrees with this view. Almost at the same time, a radio station co-founded by the Moscow and Lublin Committees called on the Polish people: "Citizens of Warsaw, take up arms; a million Poles will become a million soldiers." So the Warsaw people rose up and resisted, but no one helped them. Stalin was clearly angry at the Polish Communists fighting side by side with the Polish government-in-exile. He refused to help Poland and offered no explanation. President Roosevelt also refused to provide aid, partly because he did not want to break up relations with Stalin, and partly because if he did, the Soviet Union would stop supplying fuel to large numbers of American aircraft. Almost alone, the heroic Polish rebels ran out of ammunition and food, and ultimately failed. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/13dh.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.27-13:21] 访问:79
