The heads of state of 31 African countries met in Addis Ababa from May 22 to 26, 1963, proclaiming the establishment of the Organization of African Unity and adopting resolutions such as the Charter of the Organization of African Unity. The conference resolution on apartheid and racial discrimination condemned "all forms of racial discrimination in Africa and throughout the world". The meeting decided to establish a fund to provide financial assistance to the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and demanded the immediate release of Mandela, Sobukwe, and all other political prisoners in South Africa.
