On June 17, 1950, the Central Conservatory of Music was established
75 years ago today, on June 17, 1950 (May 3, 1950, the Lunar Calendar), the Central Conservatory of Music was established. The Central Conservatory of Music was officially established in Tianjin on June 17, 1950. The Central Conservatory of Music is composed of the Music Department of the School of Literature and Art of North China University, the Music Working Group of Northeast Lu Xun Art College, the Nanjing National Conservatory of Music and its affiliated junior class in Changzhou, the Music Department of Peking Art College, Shanghai Zhonghua Music School, and the Music Department of Yanjing University. At that time, many famous figures in the music industry participated in the preparatory work of the Central Conservatory of Music. In the early days of its establishment, the college was not large, with only four departments of composition, vocal music, piano, and orchestra. There was a folk music group in the orchestra department. In addition, institutions such as music working groups and research departments were attached; later, affiliated middle schools and primary schools were gradually established. In the autumn of 1958, the Central Conservatory of Music moved to Beijing. At this time, the school had developed into a higher conservatory of music with relatively complete professional settings and good teaching quality. In addition to the original four departments, a department of musicology, a department of conductor, a department of national instrumental music and a department of national vocal music have been added. At the beginning of 1964, the Department of National Instrumental Music, Department of National Vocal Music, and Institute of National Music of the Central Conservatory of Music merged with the Music Department of the former Beijing Academy of Art to establish the China Conservatory of Music. During the Cultural Revolution, the Central Conservatory of Music was severely damaged and was forced to stop normal teaching and enrollment work. The college is facing a complete disintegration. After the defeat of the "Gang of Four", the Ministry of Culture announced the restoration of the name and organization of the Central Conservatory of Music at the end of 1977, and the Central Conservatory of Music was given a new life. Today, the Central Conservatory of Music has become a higher music institution that represents the level of professional music education in my country and enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. It is the only national key higher art college in my country, forming a complete music teaching system from primary schools, middle schools, universities, graduate classes to doctoral classes. The college has seven professional departments: composition, theory, conducting, sound and song, folk music, piano, and orchestra, as well as a music institute and a violin production institute. The college's teaching facilities, venues, musical instruments, books, audio materials, etc. have all reached a considerable level. The Central Conservatory of Music also has a team of teachers with a certain academic level and rich experience. Ma Sicong, Li Huanzhi, Yang Yinliu, Yu Yixuan, Shen Xiang and other seniors with profound attainments have shed hard work here and made useful contributions to the development of music education. Since its establishment, the Central Conservatory of Music has cultivated thousands of musical talents, and many graduates have become the backbone of my country's music and art career, and some of them have already had a certain influence on the international music scene. People like Guo Shuzhen, Lin Yaoji, Zheng Xiaoying, Shi Guangnan, Liu Shikun, Liu Dehai, Li Shuangjiang, etc. are all outstanding graduates. In recent years, a group of rookies have bid farewell to their alma mater, gone abroad, and won a place in the international music scene. Su Cong won the Academy Award, and Liang Ning and Dilibaier have been praised as the "warblers of China." With the expansion of my country's opening up to the outside world, the Central Conservatory of Music has also established friendly and cooperative relations with many famous foreign music academies. The college's Youth Symphony Orchestra, Junior Symphony Orchestra and Youth Chorus have also been invited to visit many times and are well-known in the overseas music scene.
