On October 30, 1992, the Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team conquered Nangjabawa Peak
Thirty-three years ago today, on October 30, 1992 (October 5, 1992 lunar calendar), the Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team conquered Nanka Bawa. On October 30, 1992, 11 members of the Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team successfully climbed the highest mountain ever conquered by human beings - Nanka Bawa. These warriors are Chinese team members Gabu, Tsering Dorjee, Bianba Tashi (Group A), Samdrup, Dabong, and Daqimi (Group B); Japanese team members Kazuo Yamamoto, Hiroshi Qingda, and Benedict Yamamoto (Group A), Mitsuya, and Masayoshi Sato (Group B). The sinister and tall Nanka Bawa Peak is the highest peak at the eastern end of the Himalayas, with an altitude of 7782 meters. The mountain here is steep, the climate is changeable, and ice and avalanches are frequent, causing great difficulties for climbers. In 1991, the Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team worked hard for more than two months to climb this peak. Finally, due to the bad weather, the climb was blocked when it reached 7,460 meters and was forced to suspend the climbing activities. In 1992, the Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team regained their strength and began climbing the Nanjabawa Peak on September 11. They reached Camp 5 at 6,900 meters on October 11. Due to heavy snow falling on the mountain, they retreated to Camp 2 at 4,850 meters on October 21. On October 24, the joint mountaineering team climbed up again. Due to the sudden change in the weather, the climbers had to camp on the spot. At 8:30 on the morning of October 30, six members of Group A of the Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team stormed the summit again. After several hours of difficult climbing, they finally planted the flags of China and Japan on the top of this maiden peak. The three Chinese members of Group A reached the summit at 12:09, and the three Japanese members of Group A reached the summit at 12:18. The six Chinese and Japanese members of Group B set off from Camp 6 at 4:00 this morning. Three of the Chinese members reached the summit at 14:32, and the two Japanese members reached the summit at 14:39. Another Japanese member climbed to 7,250 meters and gave up the summit due to lack of energy. The success of this mountaineering activity is another pioneering achievement in the history of world mountaineering.
