Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On June 14, 1777, the United States adopted the Stars and Stripes as its national flag
On this day, 248 years ago, June 14, 1777 (May 10, 1777, the United States adopted the Stars and Stripes Banner as its national flag. The first official flag of the United States officially approved by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777 was the Stars and Stripes Banner. There are 13 stars in the blue rectangle above one side of the flagpole, but the arrangement of the stars is uncertain, and several patterns are known. Senator Francis Hopkinson, the flag's designer, may want to arrange the stars into a circle to symbolize (in the words of the flag act)"a new constellation." That pattern is now commonly called the "Betsy Rossflag," but Rose's descendants claim that she made the first Stars and Spangled flag and used the circular pattern is unfounded. The commonly used star arrangement is 4-5-4 or 3-2-3-2-3, but there are other variation patterns. The new Stars and Stripes formed part of the military colored flag carried at the Battle of the Brandywine on September 11, 1777, perhaps the first time it was used for this purpose. The flag of the United States of America consists of 13 wide red and white strips, and there is also a blue rectangle containing 50 small white five-pointed stars in the upper left corner. The 50 small stars represent the 50 states of the United States, while the 13 interspaced patterns symbolize the 13 colonies when the United States was first founded. Red symbolizes courage, white symbolizes truth, and blue symbolizes justice. This flag is commonly known as the "Stars and Stripes" and is officially called "The Flag of the United States." It has been revised 28 times since it officially became the U.S. flag. The flag is a symbol of all freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Most of the time it is still a symbol of personal freedom. 1645-In the English Civil War, the main army of King Charles I of England is defeated by parliamentary troops led by Fairfax and Cromwell at the Battle of Nesby.
