On this day, 58 years ago, July 1, 1967 (May 24, 1967, the three institutions of the European Community merged. In order to establish a broader common market and further strengthen the development of political and economic integration in Western Europe, France, West Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg signed the Brussels Treaty on April 8, 1965, and decided to merge the councils and executive bodies of the three organizations: the European Economic Community, the European Coal and Steel Community and the European Atomic Energy Community to form a unified European Community. Due to differences of opinion between France and five other countries on the Common Agricultural Policy, it was not until July 1, 1967 that the three organizations merged. Britain, Ireland and Denmark joined in 1973. In January 1981, Greece became the 10th member state. The organization's headquarters are in Brussels. The main institutions are: Council of Ministers of the European Communities, Commission of the European Communities, Council of Europe, European Parliament, etc. Since the establishment of the European Community, it has been developing in the direction of economic union and political union. In terms of economy, all member states have basically eliminated tariffs on industrial products internally and implemented unified import tariffs externally. A common agricultural policy was implemented, economic and monetary funds were established, a unified currency was issued, and common economic and fiscal policies were formulated. On the political front, heads of government of member states meet three times a year to coordinate domestic and foreign policies and adopt common positions on major international issues. The Community's external relations are very active. It has established formal relations with more than 100 countries in the world and has more than 110 embassies stationed in the Community.
