The first regiment of the Kuomintang in Huangqiao surrendered to the New Fourth Army. In the early morning of July 29, 1940, the New Fourth Army captured Huangqiao with a fierce charge. This decisive battle at Huangqiao began on the 25th. Chen Yi and Su Yu led the troops affiliated to the Northern Jiangsu Command of the New Fourth Army to rest in the Yangtai area and set out. They adopted long-distance raids and individual defeat tactics and headed straight at Huangqiao. On the 29th, the Kuomintang army Han Deqin's troops learned of the eastward advance of the New Fourth Army, so he ordered He Keqian to lead the Fourth Brigade of Security Security to attack north from Huangqiao and its south. He ordered Chen Taiyun to lead the tax police regiment from Qutang south to Beixin Street. He wanted to attack the north and south and eliminate Chen and Su in the movement. Chen and Su's troops took corresponding countermeasures. They first attacked Chen Taiyun's troops, defeating two regiments and annihilating more than one battalion. At the same time, they used the second column to occupy Jiangduo, Guxi, and Yingxi north of Huangqiao and northeast, and used the first column to occupy and move the river and cut off He Keqian's retreat. The third column captured the area south of Huangqiao. After fierce fighting overnight on the 28th, Huangqiao was captured on the 29th. In this battle, nearly 2000 of He Keqian's main force were wiped out, and two regiments of He Department were fought for uprisings, initially opening up a base area centered on Huangqiao.
