On this day, 83 years ago, on July 14, 1942 (June 2, 1942 in the lunar calendar), the China Expeditionary Force completed training in Ramgha, India. In July 1942, the new 38th Division moved from the Ledo area of Assam to Ramgha, and then the Expeditionary Force Headquarters and the new 22nd Division also moved here. In order to help China equip and train its troops, the United States has established a command headquarters here, composed of General McFu and officers from various arms. The Kuomintang Military Commission wanted to organize the two divisions stationed in India into artillery units and airlift them home after receiving American equipment training, so it organized the newly formed 38th Division into ten artillery battalions. However, Chiang Kai-shek's U.S. chief of staff, Stilwell, urged that the two divisions be trained with U.S. equipment and counterattack Myanmar from India and open up the China-India highway. Therefore, the Expeditionary Force Headquarters was abolished and Luo Zhuoying and Du Zhiming were ordered to return to China. Then, the General Command Headquarters of the Army in India was established, with Stilwell as the commander-in-chief, leaving only two mountain artillery battalions and one heavy artillery battalion as the division's artillery units. The rest of the troops carried out comprehensive training in all arms. The infantry regiment's mortars, chariot defense guns, rocket launchers, heavy machine guns, light machine guns, submachine guns, up to rifles and grenades were all included in training. In addition, the troops also have training in the car driving and repair departments of the Engineering Battalion, Communications Battalion, and Baggage Battalion, and even the loading and maintenance of mules and horses are trained by the US military. The troops also made targeted training plans for subsequent forest operations, and selected and sent a large number of outstanding officers to learn the theory, technology and combat methods of various arms, greatly improving the quality of officers and soldiers.
