On August 7, 1949, the Vatican found the remains of St. Peter.
Seventy-six years ago today, on August 7th, 1949 (July 13th, 1949 in the lunar calendar), the Vatican was convinced that the bones of St. Peter had been found. Is St. Peter, the leader of the church, really a person? If so, did he ever live in Rome? Was he really crucified? Did he indeed found Roman Catholicism? If these arguments are confirmed, then the Roman Catholic Church-the Pope is really his heir. The Vatican hopes to rely on experts with neutral views to collect accurate evidence before archaeological research on the remains that are considered to be St. Peter, and then draw a formal conclusion. Under the main altar of St. Peter's Basilica, in the 20-foot crypt, the relics of St. Peter have been found. Inscriptions on the walls and dated coins dotted on the ground may provide some important clues.
