The famous painting "Starry Night" created by Van Gogh in 1889 during treatment at the St. Remy Mental Hospital in southern France

Post-Impressionist painter Van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) Dutch painter. One of the representatives of the late Impressionist school. His father was a priest. He worked as a clerk, teacher, and missionary in mining areas. Moved by the poverty of miners, he began to paint workers and rural life, mainly by self-study. In the early days, he used darker colors, such as "The Potato Eater". He went to Paris in 1886. Influenced by the Impressionist school and Japanese ukiyo-e painting, he first used pointillism, which later changed to strong and loud tones, expressing his subjective feelings and excited emotions with jumping lines and raised corners. His style of painting was later adopted by Fauvism and Expressionism. Later, he committed suicide on July 29, 1890 due to mental illness, at the age of 37.

His representative works include "Sunflower","Potato Eaters","Self-Portrait in front of the easel", etc. The three volumes of "Collection of Communications" reflect his life and artistic thoughts. His works include "Sunflower","Farmers","Postman Roland","Farm Garden Supplying the Market","Prisoner Releases the Wind", etc.

Evaluation: Van Gogh is the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt.
