Banting, developer of artificial insulin and winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine, was born

Banting
On November 14, 1891, Frederick Banting, a Canadian medical scientist and developer of artificial insulin, was born.
Banting, Canadian physiologist and surgeon. Together with C.H. Bester and others, insulin can be obtained from animal pancreas for clinical application, which has contributed to the clinical treatment of diabetes, and thus won the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Born on November 14, 1891 in Aliston, Ontario, Canada, he died in Newfoundland in a plane crash on February 21, 1941. After graduating from the University of Toronto School of Medicine in 1916, he was drafted into the army and served as a military captain. He served on the front lines in Britain and France. After demobilization, he conducted research at the Western University School of Medicine in London and taught anatomy and physiology. He returned to Canada in 1921 and served at the University of Toronto School of Medicine. In 1923, he was promoted to professor. During World War II, he was engaged in aerospace medicine research.
Banting and Best ligated the pancreatic ducts of several dogs. After seven weeks, the pancreas of these dogs had atrophied and lost the function of digestive organs, but the islets were still intact in appearance. They isolated a fluid from these pancreases and gave it to dogs that developed diabetes as a result of having their pancreas removed. This extract quickly stopped the symptoms of diabetes. Banting and Best called the hormone islein, while McLeod advocated an interesting, older name insulin. The experiment was completed in 1922. In 1923, Banting and McLeod won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This was the first time a Canadian won the Nobel Prize. Since then, many people with diabetes have been able to live normal lives, including Eastman, Minot, as well as George V of the United Kingdom and writer Wells.
