61 years ago today, May 27, 1964 (April 16, 1964, the first Prime Minister of India, Nehru, passed away. Jawaharlal Nehru was born in 1889 into an aristocratic Brahmin family in Allaabad, Uttar Pradesh. The son of Montelal Nehru, a veteran of the Congress Party and a famous Indian lawyer. At the age of 16, he went to the UK to study and studied at Harrow College and Cambridge University. After returning to China in 1912, he entered politics. He has been a member of the National Committee of the Congress Party since 1918 and participated in the non-violent and non-cooperative movement led by Gandhi against British colonial rule. He was first arrested and imprisoned by the British colonial authorities in 1921. In the 27 years he fought for Indian independence, he was arrested 9 times and spent 10 years in prison. He served as General Secretary of the National Committee of the Congress Party in 1929, 1936, 1937 and 1946. Chairman of the Congress Party in 1929, 1936, 1937, 1946 and 1951-1954. In 1939, he served as Chairman of the All India State Conference and Chairman of the National Planning Commission. In 1946, he served as Vice Chairman of the Provisional Government and concurrently served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Federal Relations. Since then, he has served successively as a member of the Constitutional Assembly, a member of the Provisional Parliament, and a member of the People's House. After India's independence in August 1947, he served as Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Minister of Atomic Energy, etc., and served as Prime Minister until his death. At the end of 1949, he took the lead in recognizing New China and together with Premier Zhou Enlai proposed the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which govern international relations. One of the advocates of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Bandung Conference. He visited China in 1939 and again in 1954. He died on May 27, 1964.
