Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On November 14, 1988, Australia decided to use our rocket to launch satellites
Thirty-seven years ago today, on November 14, 1988 (October 6, 1988 lunar calendar), the Australian satellite company decided to launch satellites on our rockets. November 17, 1988 Graham Gosewinkle, manager of the Australian satellite company Ossett, announced today in Sydney that Ossett plans to launch two satellites on Chinese Long March-2E rockets in 1991 and 1992. Gosewinkle said the company made the decision because it is most cost-effective to launch satellites on Chinese rockets. "Ossett has every confidence that the People's Republic of China can successfully launch these two satellites for Australia," he said. But he said the company's decision was subject to approval by the Paris Coordinating Committee. Ossett is Australia's only satellite company. It already has three communications satellites, known as Australia's first-generation satellites. The two satellites it decided to launch on its Long March-2E rocket, known as Australia's second-generation satellites, were built by Hughes of the United States.
