On this day, 90 years ago, on December 24, 1935 (November 29, 1935, the lunar calendar), Xiao Hong published "The Field of Life and Death" which caused a sensation in the Shanghai literary world. In December 1935, female writer Xiao Hong's novel "Life and Death Field" was published by Shanghai Rongguang Bookstore as the third "Slave Series", and the pseudonym "Xiao Hong" was used for the first time. As soon as this novel came out, it immediately shook the Shanghai literary and artistic circles. In October 1934, Xiao Jun and Xiao Hong took a boat from Qingdao to Shanghai. The two Xiao's had no relatives in Shanghai. They wrote a letter to Lu Xun and quickly received a reply. On November 30, they met Mr. Lu Xun for the first time in Neishan Bookstore. Xiao Hong handed over the original manuscript of "The Field of Life and Death" to Lu Xun. Lu Xun carefully revised the whole book and handed the revised manuscript to Huang Yuan for publication in Literature magazine. When he first arrived in Shanghai, he had no means to live, so Lu Xun borrowed money many times to support them. On December 19, Lu Xun hosted a banquet in honor of Xiao Hong and Xiao Jun at Liyuan Yucai Restaurant, No. 332 Guangxi Road, and introduced them to Mao Dun, Nie Ganlu, Zhou Ying and Ye Zi. Lu Xun asked Ye Zi to serve as a guide and introduced Xiao Hong and the others into the Shanghai literary world. Xiao Hong's "Life and Death Field" was not allowed to be published after being censored because it reflected the anti-Japanese struggle of the people in Northeast China. Lu Xun paid for the publication of this novel himself and personally wrote a preface to it, saying that it was a "penetrating picture" of "the people of the north's strength for life and their struggle for death." At Xiao Hong's request, Lu Xun also personally wrote and signed it, and printed it on the book. The cover of the book was designed by Xiao Hong himself.
