On this day, 79 years ago, on July 15, 1946 (June 17, 1946, the lunar calendar), Wen Yiduo was assassinated while attending the memorial service for Li Gongpu. Wen Yiduo is in front of the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, full of hope for the future. Wen Yiduo was a native of Xishui County, Hubei Province. In his early years, he went to the United States to study art, while conducting literary research and poetry creation. Wen Yiduo has a straight and upright personality and the spirit of hatred of evil, but lacks experience in fighting in a complex political environment. In his view, the better a friend is, the more he cannot tolerate mistakes. In the spring of 1945, someone spread a rumor: "Li Gongpu has been bribed and is about to go to Chongqing to take up an important position." One afternoon, Li Gongpu happened to be at Wen Yijia, and Wu Han and Chu Tunan were also there. Wen Yiduo slapped the table and asked him: "Why betray the Democratic League?" Li Gongpu defended himself. However, in the midst of the fire, Wen Yiduo did not listen. Li Gongpu also left in anger. That night, Li Gongpu found Zhang Guangnian and told him about the unjust case. Zhang Guangnian found Wen Yiduo the next day. Wen Yiduo didn't wait for Zhang Guangnian to finish speaking, but said sincerely: "We were wrong! We apologize to Gong Pu! In April 1945, Li Gongpu's North Gate Bookstore reprinted Mao Zedong's "On New Democracy" and "On Coalition Government". Unexpectedly, some people made trouble, and North Gate Bookstore secretly copied other people's things and only cared about making money for themselves. Wen Yiduo couldn't stand it after hearing this. He said in front of Li Gongpu: "It's okay to run a bookstore, but you can't have 'bookseller behavior.'" The two had a big argument. Later, Feng Sutao invited Chu Tunan to visit Wen Yiduo and told him that what was secretly reproduced was Mao Zedong's works. Wen Yiduo heard this and immediately said: "Oh! That was my fault. I wrongly blamed Gongpu." Pulled them together to apologize to Li Gongpu. As soon as Wen Yiduo entered the door, he said first: "Gongpu, I wronged you again. Now I come to apologize." Li Gongpu immediately stepped forward to meet him, and the two comrades hugged tightly. On July 11, 1946, Li Gongpu, a patriotic democratic fighter and early leader of the Democratic League, was brutally killed. Wen Yiduo was in extreme danger, but he put his life and death aside and participated in the memorial service held for his close friend Li Gongpu on July 15. He impassioned and delivered the famous "Last Speech". A few hours later, Wen Yiduo also tragically fell under the enemy's gunshots, shedding the last drop of blood for the motherland, people, and friends he loved. He was only 47 years old.
