103 years ago today, August 25, 1922 (July 3, 1922, the lunar calendar), Marin and Sun Yat-sen met to discuss cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. On August 25, 1922, Marin, as a representative of the Soviet envoy Yue Fei, held talks with Sun Yat-sen in Shanghai to discuss issues such as the Kuomintang's alliance with Soviet Russia and cooperation with the Communist Party of China. Marin told Sun Yat-sen that the Communist International had decided that the Communists of China would join the Kuomintang; at the same time, Marin advised Sun Yat-sen not to simply use military action to recover Guangzhou, but to carry out a mass propaganda campaign based on Shanghai. Marin proposed to Sun Yat-sen to reorganize the Kuomintang, and Sun Yat-sen accepted the proposal. Sun Yat-sen told Marin that he now felt it was absolutely necessary to establish a closer connection with Soviet Russia, and Sun Yat-sen readily agreed with the Communists joining the Kuomintang to achieve cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
