891 years ago today, on September 8, 1134 (August 18, 1134), the mighty Alfonso I of Spain died. Alfonso I AlfonsoIelBatallador (circa 1073 - September 8, 1134) King of Aragon and Navarre (reigned 1104-1134). Alfonso I was the son of King Sancho I of Aragon. He married Uralca, the heiress of Castile (widow of Raymond, Count of Burgundy). After the death of King Alfonso VI of Castile, Alfonso I (of Aragon) effectively inherited all four Christian states on the Iberian Peninsula (Aragon, Navarre, Leon, Castile).
